Aged care changes now operational

4 July 2014

Aged care providers take note - reforms to the Australian aged care system came into effect on July 1, 2014.

The changes to the delivery of aged care services have been introduced by the Government with a view to improving the transparency and sustainability of the sector. With this in mind, what are some of the key points to consider?

  • Aged care residents will now have greater choice when it comes to paying for accommodation and services with 28 days to make a final decision on the mode of payment.
  • All residential aged care providers are now obliged to publish the prices they intend to charge from July 1, 2014 onwards for accommodation and extra services. Additional information such as the description of key features and room types must also be included.
  • All Refundable Accommodation Deposits or equivalent Daily Accommodation Payments in excess of $550,000 are now required to be approved by the Aged Care Pricing Commissioner.
