Commercial consignments and the art of the PPSA

24 July 2014

The Federal Ministry for the Arts has called for submissions from visual artists who sell works through galleries as part of the Review of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth).

The invitation is a timely reminder for anyone who sells goods by consignment to register their security interest on the PPS Register to ensure their property is protected. You should also have a written consignment contract that describes the consigned goods to ensure that if the dealer becomes insolvent, you retain ownership of what is yours.
