Female sporting leaders bolstered by new Federal Government programme
10 April 2015
The Federal Minister for Health and Sport, the Hon. Sussan Ley, has announced that over 84 separate projects totalling $400,000 will benefit from the Federal Government's Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) initiative nationwide.
The program (formally Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women), is coordinated by the Australian Sports Commission in partnership with the Australian Government Office for Women and aims to promote women in leadership roles within the sporting community by providing opportunities to receive advanced training in a variety of roles including coaching, marketing, officiating and sports governance.
Two categories of grants were offered as part of the WLIS programme. The first being individual grants of up to $5000 per annum as well as grants for organisations of up to $10,000. These grants were available to sporting sector employees, organisations and volunteers alike.
