New national campaign targets visa fraud

3 October 2014

The Department of Immigration has announced its intentions to crack down on visa sponsors who illegally profit from arranging sponsorship for workers under the 457 visa program.

Targeted investigations by the Department and a public awareness campaign entitled "Work visa scams. Don't pay the price" aim to hold visa sponsors to account for fraudulent activity as well as making potential employers aware of their duties and obligations under the regulatory regime.

Visa holders who enter into contrived employment scenarios to bypass legitimate immigration processes are also at risk of prosecution.
