New trades added to the Skilled Occupations List for prospective migrants

18 July 2014

As at 1 July 2014 a handful of new trades have been added to the Australian Government's "Skilled Occupation List" (SOL) expanding the potential opportunities for skilled migrants.

The SOL now comprises of 191 eligible occupations and applies only to those applying for an independent or family sponsored points tested visa (Subclass 485 - Graduate Work Stream or Temporary Graduate visa applications).

Bricklayers, chefs and wall and floor tilers now join the list that contains a wide variety of professions ranging from metallurgists to neurosurgeons. The Assistant Minister for Immigration, Senator Michaelia Cash has noted that these new additions will help to address the shortfall of skilled labour in the construction and hospitality industries in regional areas.
