Queensland Workers' Compensation Review

On 22 August 2013, members of the Parliamentary Finance and Administration Committee who investigated and reported on the Queensland Workers' Compensation Scheme rose in parliament to commend their report to the government.
On 26 August 2013, the Attorney General tabled the government's interim response to the workers' compensation review report (attached).
The interim response referred to action taken regarding:
- the definition of "worker" which has been amended to align to the definition of a worker within the ATO Taxation Scheme;
- proposing greater flexibility for self-insurance licensing allowing greater discretion for Q-Comp to issue or renew self-insurance licences where all criteria are not met.
The Attorney General now has until 23 November 2013 to table a final response to the remaining recommendations of the report, including the issue of limits to common law damages, which was not highlighted when the committee rose to present their report on 22 August 2013.
