Safe night out bill passes through Queensland Parliament

29 August 2014

The Safe Night Out Legislation Amendment Bill 2014 (Qld) was passed by the Queensland Parliament on 26 August 2014 delivering a new set of legislative strategies to combat the public's growing unease with the prevalence of alcohol related violence in entertainment districts across the State.

Under the new provisions, licensees will need to adhere to a more rigorous liquor licensing system that requires greater cooperation with licensing authorities and cracks down on licensees who flout responsible service of alcohol laws. Safe Night Precincts will also be established throughout Queensland with local community members and business representatives coming together to coordinate initiatives to address alcohol fuelled crime.
